About Edward Mitchell

I practise at Barry Nilsson Lawyers in the Insurance + Health Team in South Australia and nationally. I act for and provide advice to professional indemnity insurance providers, medical defence organisations and their members in relation to matters including medical negligence and personal injury claims, AHPRA / investigations and tribunal actions, Coroner’s inquests (including appearing as counsel) and risk management. I have acted for and defended a variety of medical and health care providers including both public and private hospitals, medical practitioners, dentists, psychologists, physiotherapists and other allied health providers. I have always had an interest in health, having studied health science at university in addition to law and having previously worked in clinical trial and hospital settings. I hold a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours from the University of Adelaide as well as a Bachelor of Health Sciences with majors in Anatomical Science, Pathology and Reproductive Health. I was Associate to the Honourable Justice Kelly in the Supreme Court of South Australia in 2017. I have also had first-hand experience working as a cardiac catheterisation laboratory coordinator in a private hospital and as a clinical trial coordinator in a leading university medical research unit.
