About Edward Reed

I am an enthusiastic third year Materials Science & Engineering student at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities with an interest in Aerospace, Semiconductors, Renewable Energy, Photovoltaics, Electronics. I am seeking a summer internship to apply my experience with critical thinking, problem solving, and data analysis in order to experience the breadth of engineering work in today's society. I am looking for the opportunity to benefit not only the company I work for, but to develop my skills as a future engineer. If you would have told me one year ago that I would be applying for Materials Science & Engineering internships and co-ops now, I would have asked "What in the world is materials science?"​ Like many students entering college today, I thought I knew what I wanted to do with the rest of my life right away.After taking an introductory class on Materials Science, I did hours of research on the field. What I found made me fall in love. Spiders weaving silk reinforced with carbon nanotubes, ceramics that bend without breaking, self-healing polymers, materials that cool buildings by sending the radiating the heat into space in very specific frequencies? I needed to know how all of this was possible. Furthermore, I saw the opportunity to change the world. Whether it's developing more efficient solar cells, or eliminating the need for wasteful air conditioning with the material mentioned above, there is so much wonderful work being done in the community today. A community that I aspire to make a difference in!
