Background
About Edward Sutcliffe
As an artist and art teacher, I have over 23 years of experience in creating and teaching art that reflects my world. I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education in Art & Design (Secondary) from Birmingham Institute of Art & Design, and a BA Hons in Art with Art History from Aberystwyth University. I have also exhibited and won multiple awards at the prestigious National Portrait Gallery’s Portrait Prize and The John Moores Painting Prize. Based from my studio in Notting Hill, I create paintings that are forensic, chaotic, and beautiful, based on direct observation of real things in my studio. I explore themes of complexity, beauty, and honesty in my contemporary art, using realism and other techniques to capture the essence of my subjects. I often hold open studios, if you are interested in seeing my work in person, send me message to arrange a visit. In addition to my practice, I share my passion and expertise with aspiring artists through workshops and courses at The Art Academy, where I have been teaching since 2016. I enjoy empowering and inspiring my students to develop their own artistic vision and skills.
