Background

About Edward Wilhelm

I have taught for 10+ years as a university instructor in the biological sciences at St. Charles Community College, Maryville University (St. Louis, MO) and McKendree University (Lebanon, IL). I enjoy implementing teaching strategies that have students doing rather than watching. I'm a big proponent of low stakes assignments that allow students to fail and try again so that they learn from their mistakes. I enjoy creating new and exciting coursework and developed a Crop Science course that I taught at the university level.Prior to my career in teaching, I worked in the agricultural industry for 11 years as a Genetics Associate for the seed corn company BASF (Ames, IA). Following that, I moved to Cambridge, UK and completed a PhD in plant genetics. In the PhD study, I used molecular approaches and in-depth statistical analyses to understand the genetic causes of changes in plant height.Lastly, I have devoted many hours and much heart over the last 3+ years as a volunteer for Scouts BSA. As Cubmaster, I have helped develop and lead a program for a Cub Scout pack with 60 members with the goal of instilling leadership, service, and a love of the outdoors.
