Background
About Edwin Lynch
As I hit my teens, I went from city paper boy (you may remember my signature cry to trolley pusher. At night, somewhat inspired by Thatcher's Falklands War, I programmed the school mainframe with a harrier jump-jet pilot text-adventure. In "Special Art"(applecros SHS), I made Super 8 animation films. This madcap "hobby" went serious, winning me WA Young Filmmaker of the Year award (twice). I weasled my way in to a BA in Film & Screenwriting at Curtin and suddenly, I was directing kids' TV, penning super low-budget (theosophical) sci-fi telefeatures (one for Ron Elliott and Channel 7) and even had one short film shortlisted for Cannes "Un Certain Regard"(Director's Fortnight) and the Oberhausen International Film Festivals in 1991. In 2007, a film I co-wrote and then directed won the World Theosophical Film Festival (Chennai, India). I met lots of Academics and started on a Doctorate at Curtin, but when SBS dangled a TV feature script contract in front of me, I bailed and chose to write a screenplay about a misguided single mother and her 5 aging man-boys (based on my Scouse Dad and his 4 brothers emigrating from Liverpool). My love affair with the big screen fizzled. I was going around in circles - not learning anything new. After 25+ years filmmaking, I had a bank account that looked like I still sold newspapers papers. So. At 38, I revisited my love of computers, going back to TAFE (more hands on) to learn about Web Development and programming. Since 1997, I've been "wizard behind the curtain" for several online marketing companies, including writing a business reports for Synergy, identify weak spots in employee retention using Google data. I'm now living the dream as a Python and C# Game Developer for the Medical Health Sciences School at ECU and Bond University Queensland. My Computer Games help young and old deal with mental health, the environment and challenging physical issues. I've just signed on to do develop an interesting game fo health professionals. Oh, and did I mention I've been lecturing on and off at all WA universities since 1995? In 2007, Open Universities Australia (OUA) voted me the 5th top tutor out of 2,500+ lecturers and tutors across Australia - across all disciplines. Today, I'm knee-deep in the world of AI & Real Game Development, but I'm continuously drawn to new adventures. Especially looking forward to the synergies between Quantum Computing, AI and Robotics. Life is about to become. Gamified.
