Reported to the General Counsel for Global Growth and EHS and to the Vice President of Litigation and Legal Policy: managed high-stakes litigation involving plaintiffs claiming exposures to chemicals used by the Company. Claims ranged from hundreds of thousands of dollars to billions and were designated as “significant” for 10-K auditing purposes. Cases included mass torts, and catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death claims. Member of GE’s elite litigation practice group,<50 lawyers out of the 1700 within the Company who met regularly to share best practices, analyze cases, provide moot court support. Tasked with trend-spotting, dissemination, risk reviews. Key designee on rule reforms. Provided in-house training for managers, lawyers, physicians and EHS employees on litigation risk issues such as liability, privilege, workers compensation, ownership and control. GE’s representative in about 20 state and national advocacy organizations whose goal is to improve civil litigation to make it faster, less expensive and more focused on the merits of the case. Led coalitions to pass legislation and court rules in several states.
