About Efrain Torres

In 1996, Captain Torres started his law enforcement career with the Byron Police Department in Byron, Il. In 1997, he joined the Ogle County Sheriff's Office, where he worked road patrol and was a K9 officer. Captain Efrain Torres joined the Broward Sheriff's Office in 2001 as a deputy assigned to road patrol in the Pompano Beach District. Throughout his career, he has filled many roles. Some of these assignments include Field Training Deputy, the Highway Unit, detective in the Robbery Unit, Homicide Unit, Violent Crimes Unit, and Civil Enforcement Unit. He also served in the agency's Field Force Unit, specializing in crowd control and management. In 2015, he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the Pompano Beach District, where he supervised employees in the patrol division. As a Sergeant, he also supervised the District Criminal Investigations Unit and the Marine Unit, where he remained until his promotion to Lieutenant In June 2019. As a Lieutenant, he served in the Training Division overseeing several units that provide professional and organizational growth to all deputies in the agency. He was later selected as the Executive Officer for Area 1 in the Pompano Beach District and has served as the Executive Officer for Central Broward and Lauderdale Lakes District. Promoted to Captain in 2021, he is currently assigned to Pompano Beach as the Assistant Chief of Police. Captain Torres also proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and, after a distinguished career, retired with over 22 years of service. He participated in two combat tours overseas in support of both Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was awarded a Navy Achievement Medal with a distinguishing "V" for combat valor. He holds a bachelor's degree in Public Administration from Park University (Summa Cum Laude). In 2021, he completed the Southern Police Institute's Command Officer's Development Course and was the recipient of the Directors Award for academic excellence.
