About Ehsan Suleiman

I am a biotechnologist and vaccinologist with extensive hands-on experience in the development and manufacturing of liposomes and lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). I have successfully worked on the lipid-based formulation of a wide range of compounds (e.g, siRNA, miRNA, antisense oligos, pDNA, peptides, protein immunogens and small molecules) and I am very well acquainted with all common platforms for the production of lipid-based drug delivery systems, i.e, microfluidics-based platforms,(cross-flow) solvent injection, thin-film hydration, active/remote loading and bioconjugation techniques. I have operated at the interface of industry and academia for >10 years. As my longstanding employer Polymun Scientific Immunbiologische Forschung GmbH was very supportive with regard to me studying while working full-time, I had the privilege to enjoy both the benefits of operating within an aspiring biotech company and receiving excellent academic education within related fields. Both, my master's and doctoral thesis formed part of the (contract) research and development activities of Polymun's Liposome and Lipid Nanoparticle Technology Department. During this period, I have had the chance to grow, continuously take on greater responsibilities and, as a result, experience my profession from a range of different perspectives. I have followed and led. I have worked both alone and as part of a team on numerous projects. As a longstanding employee of a CRO/CMO for biopharmaceuticals, liposomes and lipid nanoparticles, I have learned to manage the needs of many different stakeholders and to approach challenging projects with diligence and a pragmatic attitude. Recently, I have started exploring viral vector-based vaccines and apply my years of expertise in the field of nanomedicine and vaccine development to address some of the key challenges (i.e, pre-existing vector immunity, shelf life and genetic stability) of this exciting platform. Given my professional history and my background in biotechnology and vaccinology, which constitutes, in essence, the synthesis and application of many different scientific fields, I like to think of myself as a generalist. Part technologist, part immunologist, part chemist. As such, I have always been dedicated to collaboration, educating myself, bringing experts together, and keeping the big picture in mind.
