About Eka Ningtyas
I am a historian specializing in modern Indonesian political history, with a particular focus on the historical construction and transformation of Javanism from the 19th century to the present. I earned my PhD in History from INALCO, Paris (2025), where my dissertation examined the articulation, contestation, and evolution of Javanism across political, religious, and literary discourses in Indonesia. My research investigates how Javanism has been shaped and reshaped through its entanglement with political ideologies, religious thought, literary production, and the broader politics of culture from the colonial era to the present day. Alongside my historical research, I have a strong passion for Digital Humanities, particularly in the preservation and digitization of local archives. I actively engage in initiatives—including volunteer projects—to safeguard endangered collections, with the aim of expanding access to primary sources, democratizing historical knowledge, and fostering innovative approaches to the study of Indonesia’s past.
