About Elaine Ashurst
After experiencing life on the ward and the continued navigation of my journey of discovery/recovery I am passionate about lived experience being at the forefront in the treatment of mental health challenges. The turning point in my journey was when I participated in a course with peers. I want others to experience that connection and have been running recovery based yoga groups on the ward at Fremantle Hospital as a volunteer for 7 years. I now work within the Mental Health Service and deliver skills based recovery programs. Just to be there to say “I know what it’s like’” and to give hope empowers me. Having peer led programs in hospitals is essential
