About Elaine Carty

I currently attend UWS Paisley where I am studying towards PGDip CBT. From 2021-2022 I gained a masters in Health Psychology with merit from the University of Stirling. For my research project I collaborated with 2 others on a project entitled “Investigating the use of a pain app on young people experiencing migraine pain”. Further to attending UWS and a day on placement I am working as a DBI practitioner for LAMH. Prior to this I gained 2 years volunteer experience as a SHOUT crisis volunteer. I also hold a first class honours degree in Psychology, gained in 2020. During my 5 years with The Open University I studied child development, childhood studies, counselling, mental health, biological psychology, forensic psychology, and 3 research modules covering quantitive and qualitative research methods. I completed my dissertation on “A phenomenological analysis on the effects of owning a pet dog on wellbeing”. Furthermore, prior to studying in 2015, I completed 3 additional modules with the Open University, Biological Psychology, Human Biology and Understanding Autism spectrum disorders. I continue to improve on my self development with continuing professional development courses. I am a passionate, caring and driven individual with a deep interest in mental health and supporting others. I want to ensure I can be there for others, no matter what challenge life throws their way. Additionally, I have achieved further qualifications in Engineering and Computing (HNC Engineering: HND Computing: Hardware Support) and photography. Photography remains a passion of mine and something I enjoy doing in my spare time. Furthermore, I also spend my spare time writing, walking my 2 dogs, yoga, drawing/painting and spending time in nature. I also hold a 'Counselling skills' certificate (COSCA)and an 'Introduction to counselling' certificate. This taught me to be an empathic and understanding listener, who accepts other people without judgement.
