Over 8 years experience in social work. Able to effectively collaborate with families and all members of the multidisciplinary team to address social determinants of health and help build strong families. One of my accomplishments during my time at UAB Medicine is creating, implementing and securing funding for a formula bank. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, WIC stopped providing formula to mothers of newborns to help offset costs until their WIC benefits began. This meant that many moms had no resources to feed their babies in those critical first 10 days. Initially I was able to start the formula bank through donations, but later secured funding to keep the formula bank running even in my absence. The formula bank has been able to serve over 300 families in the Greater Birmingham area. Because of my work at UAB Medicine, I was voted by the Department of Pediatrics as a Champion of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in 2021. I was also able to effectively collaborate with the Department of Pediatrics and administration, securing a grant to have the first Child Psychologist in clinic to provide free services to our indigent patient population.
