About Eleanor Abbott

I am an ESRC PhD researcher at the University of Leeds conducting research into HMICFRS’s national thematic inspections into domestic abuse. The research is being supported by HMICFRS. The primary aim of my research is to develop an understanding of the impact and implications of HMICFRS’s 2013 National Thematic Inspection into ‘policing responses to domestic violence and abuse’ (which resulted in the 2014 thematic inspection report ‘Everyone’s Business’). My research will explore the genesis of the Thematic Inspection and its influence on both the subsequent work of HMICFRS and its impact and reception within specific police forces (as part of a case study design) as well as the work of other organisations, such as providers of victims’ services. The research will provide insights into the mechanisms and processes through which the Thematic Inspection has influenced improvements in police and victims’ services responses to domestic violence and abuse.
