About Eleanor Scholtens

I trained in the UK in 2010 and have had a variety of roles over the years starting in a cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (ICU), to a neuro-trauma ICU, to community nursing where I became a district nursing sister, and then I moved to Aotearoa in 2015. From 2015 I continued work in intensive cares, coordinating in a rural ICU, with some bureau work across all surgical and medical specialties. Most recently I have held a clinical nurse coordinator role in acute patient flow, then nurse coordinator PDRD, with my current role being charge nurse of the Inpatient Ward at Braemar Hospital. Being able to be provide a high standard of care to patients and build rapport with them and whanau to educate and support them through their Healthcare journey is incredibly rewarding. However, i have really enjoyed being in senior roles, as I aim to provide a more global impact on patient care through creating a positive work environment that empowers individual colleagues' strengths and passions, role modeling high standards of care and creating psychologically safe places to work. I have a relationship based leadership style and believe that you get back what you put in. Open communication is key, and self-awareness, compassion, and a strong work ethic help to enhance those working relationships. I have completed my PG dip in leadership and management as well as education and aim to start my MSc next year.
