About Elgin Pecjak
I hold a Ph.D. from the Institute of Feminist and Gender Studies at the University of Ottawa. I am a transgender man and queer researcher who prioritizes intersectionality, culturally relevant, gender-based, and anti-colonial theories, and methodologies. I prioritize harm reduction, free-prior informed consent, and ongoing consent models. I work and live on the traditional lands of the Anishinabewaki, Odawa, Petun, Mississauga, and Wendake-Ninowentosio Peoples.My dissertation is entitled Scrambling for Parenthood: Oocyte cryopreservation, conflicted hope, and biogenetic parenthood in transgender and gender diverse individuals taking testosterone and living in Ontario, Canada, and seeks to investigate the family formation, fertility preservation, and experiences with healthcare among individuals taking, or hoping to take testosterone. My research interests include trans parenthood, biomedicalization, eugenics, compulsory parenthood, and the complex intersections between trans identity and biogenetic parenthood. Current projects include a chapter publication on experiences of menstruation among transgender and gender diverse individuals and an upcoming international conference in June 2022.
