About Elisa Giomi

Elisa Giomi is Associate Professor in Sociology of Culture and Communication at Roma Tre University - Department of Philosophy, Communication and Performance, where she teaches Media Sociology; Forms of Television Storytelling; Advertising. She coordinates the Communication and Media module of the Master in Gender Studies and Politics. She has also taught for the Cultural Leadership Research Master's Degree Course at the University of Groningen. She is the author of over 70 publications for major Italian and international publishers and for Italian and foreign peer-reviewed journals. Her latest publications include:"Le dinamiche economiche reali, i potenziali rischi sociali ed i vantaggi dell’intelligenza artificiale. Il banco di prova della libertà di espressione e d'informazione e la risposta normativa"(Castelvecchi, forthcoming); “The (almost) unacknowledged revolution of AI in the media and creative industries"(Intermedia 2024),"I media oggi. Tecnologie, mercati, profili socio-culturali e risposte normative"(Problems of Information 2023) and "Male and Female Violence in Popular Media"(Bloomsbury 2023). She is a member of the Scientific Committee of AIRIA (Association for the Regulation of Artificial Intelligence). She has led national and international research projects aimed at studying the media and identifying good practices in the sector, on behalf of various bodies and institutions including: European Parliament, EJC-European Journalism Centre, EIGE-European Institute for Gender Equality. She has coordinated television content analysis researches on behalf of Italian broadcasters, including monitoring the representation of women in RAI programming. She has collaborated with the “Commission of enquiry on feminicide, as well as on all forms of gender-based violence” of Italian Parliament; she is a member of the board of the “Gender Studies” section of the AIS-Italian Association of Sociology and of the magazine “AG.About Gender-International Journal of Gender Studies”. By decree of the President of the Republic, Prof. Giomi was appointed on 15 September 2020 as a member of the Board of AGCOM-Italian independent regulatory Authority for communications.
