Background
About Elisa Kodish
I serve as the Pro Bono Partner for Nelson Mullins, leading all pro bono efforts firmwide across our 31 offices in advocating for equal justice and providing representation to groups and individuals of limited means. Central to this role is the formulation of our strategic vision for our pro bono culture, connecting attorneys to meaningful causes and cases, and cultivating partnerships with nonprofit legal service providers and corporate clients. Working closely with our pro bono team and committee members, we develop public interest projects, provide training and supervision, and work with clients and nonprofit organizations to help advance their pro bono initiatives. Each year, Nelson Mullins' lawyers and professional staff take on matters spanning public interest law, helping to advocate for civil and disability rights, criminal justice reform, stable housing, protection from violence, at-risk youth, gender equity, education access, and the advancement of racial and social justice. In addition, Nelson Mullins organizes legal clinics and advises nonprofit organizations and charities working to address critical legal and social problems. I am a past president of the Board of Directors for the Atlanta Legal Aid Society, former Adjunct Professor for Emory University School of Law, and 2019 graduate of Leadership Atlanta. Prior to assuming the role of Pro Bono Partner, I practiced as a litigation partner with experience in medical device defense, franchise litigation, and toxic torts. Over the last twenty years at Nelson Mullins, I have helped develop the Atlanta office's pro bono program and provided training and direct case representation in matters involving education advocacy, housing, and guardianship work.
