Background
About Elisabeth Workman
Elisabeth works across the cultural spectrum as an art writer, poet, grant writer, and teacher, helping to shape and activate new visions for how we live. She's motivated by a commitment to social change and re-enchantment via the written word.Per grant work, she's penned successful proposals to the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Science Foundation, Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, HUD, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Jerome Foundation, McKnight Foundation, Joyce Foundation, Andy Warhol Foundation, Wallace Foundation, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Woodrow Wilson Center, and many other regional, state, and municipal funders. Her art writing is currently focused on sculpture and poetry in the most capacious senses. She’s the author of a dozen poetry and hybrid chapbooks—including The Figures: A Litter (Dancing Girl Press)—and the full-length collections ULTRAMEGAPRAIRIELAND (Bloof Books) and ENDLESSNESS IS NO DESOLATION (Dusie Press). Her work has appeared in The End of the World Project (Moria Books), Counter-Desecration: A Glossary for Writing in the Anthropocene (Wesleyan), Flarf: An Anthology of Flarf (Edge Books), and in a Codex of Quotidian Beasts (with Jenny Schmid’s cryptozoological etchings). Numerous institutions have made time/space for her explorations possible (including the Walker Art Center, Jerome, McKnight, MCAD, MSAB, SAFTA, U of M Creative Writing MFA Program, the PA Council on the Arts, and In Cahoots) and in turn have informed her teaching that finds in poetry a vessel/crucible for transformation and radical embodiment. She can be found in the disembodied realm at elisabethworkman.com.
