About Elizabeth Kessenides

Assistant General Counsel, Tax for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, previously a tax law Partner at Covington & Burling, tax associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell and Cravath. Left *big law* after 18 years to open a tax law boutique office in midtown Manhattan, and joined the FRBNY in January 2015. I have extensive experience as in house tax counsel addressing a wide range of operational areas as well as the policy making process. Additionally, I have extensive experience with cross-border tax planning, domestic and international M&A, and the interaction of tax and GAAP in relation to financial services entities. My roles, both as in-house tax counsel and as a tax partner with a prominent multi-national law firm, have demanded high proficiency in problem solving and communication skills. I am committed to diversity and mentoring, and have taken a leadership role in creating a networking group for tax lawyers in the early stages of their careers.An area of personal interest is international and state taxation and source of income - in the context of 'remote work'. There are policy considerations for the future of tax revenues on all fronts. On a separate track, I have a deep knowledge of the art world, and have previously represented nonprofit entities, major artists and collectors on a wide range of legal and tax matters.
