About Elizabeth Main

Immediately after completing my Honor's Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies at the University of Utah, I began an accelerated Master of Architecture program. I also earned a certificate in Historic Preservation and I love discussing architectural theory. During my graduate career, I interned at the University of Utah Campus Design and Construction. While there, I collaborated on a research project regarding "experiential environments" in university architecture, which culminated in a paper published in "Planning for Higher Education", the official journal of the Society for College and University Planning. Shortly after graduation, I relocated to Kansas City with my husband. I worked at a healthcare design firm in Kansas City, where I assisted in planning and designing hospital units, clinics, and sports medicine facilities. In 2013, I was selected as one of 12 member of NCARB's second Intern Think Tank. This group convened in December of 2013 to consider licensure issues that face interns throughout the profession. Our resulting proposals have been discussed at various national conferences, and I participated in a related Q&A panel at the 2014 IDP Coordinator's Conference in August. In 2014 I served as a mentor for the Kansas City AIA's ARE Success Team, in which I offered assistance and support to other interns as they study for their AREs. I recently relocated to Portland, Oregon, where I worked on a variety of retail and residential towers with GBD Architects.
