About Elizabeth Mitchell

Hi! I work in water and wastewater engineering from HDR's St Louis Park, MN office. I currently spend the majority of my time working on domestic, decentralized water and wastewater systems in remote locations. I have always been passionate about sustainability and am fascinated by how sustainability can and must be embedded and integrated into everything we design, build and operate if we are going to create an inclusive and sustainable future for all. This passion has driven my involvement in the internal Sustainability Stewards Program (SSP) at HDR where I lead the event planning and initiatives at the HDR St Louis Park office. As an office lead, I coordinate and collaborate with other internal HDR groups to make sustainability more accessible to HDR employees, contributing to the sustainability vision of HDR Corporate Sustainability. Outside of work, I love giving back to my community through volunteering. I am working toward certification as a Hennepin County Recycling Ambassador where I volunteer at various events to encourage residents to reduce waste, recycle more and start composting. I completed the Apartment Recycling Champion Program through Hennepin County in 2024 where I worked on improving the recycling system at the apartment building that I was currently living in at the time. I volunteer with the Women's Environmental Network of Minnesota, Friends of the Mississippi River, and other local environmental groups when possible. As you might have noticed, I am very passionate about the environment. I also support local justice groups working to advance women's rights, human rights, reproductive rights and education rights. I protest, volunteer and donate when I can. It can be overwhelming to think about all of the movements taking place right now to push back on the multitude of attacks on our rights, but I find inspiration and motivation in seeing people come together to fight back. Together we can change the world for the better.
