About Elizabeth Murphy

Elizabeth Murphy is the Vice President of Federal Policy & Partnerships for Sandy Hook Promise, an organization whose mission is to protect all children from gun violence at school, at home, and in their communities. In her current role, she oversees Sandy Hook Promise's federal policy work and previously served as a State Policy Director. Prior to her work with Sandy Hook Promise, Murphy served as Legislative Director for the Massachusetts Organization of State Engineers and Scientists, and worked as a director for policy and advocacy at the Sheridan Group, a small lobbying and advocacy firm representing nonprofit clients on Capitol Hill and with the administration. Before joining Sheridan, Murphy served as Communications Director for two members of Congress and spent five years doing both communications and legislative work on Capitol Hill, focusing on women's issues and the Progressive Caucus Agenda. Murphy currently serves as Vice Chair on the Board of the Women’s Congressional Staff Foundation. She has a Master’s of Public Policy degree from Georgetown University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bates College.
