Background

About Elizabeth Powers

I have extensive experience in choral performance and have been fortunate to sing in multiple professional venues in North America and in several foreign countries. These experiences have formed my conviction that the arts not only contribute to society but to the personal formation of the performer in their social development and intellectual growth. My goals include investing myself in the lives of young musicians in order to draw out and increase their love of music and musical abilities. My desire is to teach in the classroom environment nurturing excellence in young musicians. I will bring musical knowledge including ear training and music theory, utilizing strong educational principles while bringing mastery to my classroom and instilling a love of music and a joyful collaborative experience in and for my students. Personally, I will also continue to express my own love of music and the collaborative experience by pursuing professional vocal opportunities in choral and small ensemble settings. My ultimate professional goal is to lead a nonprofit youth choral organization as the Artistic Director as well as pursuing personal professional performance opportunities. As well as having a love of music, Spanish language and culture are very dear to me. In the summer before my senior year of college, I spent two months traveling and studying in Spain. With this program, I learned the history and culture of Spain and expanded my conversation skills. For my future classroom, I developed methods and learned new principles for teaching the language and culture in fun, enriching, and engaging ways.
