About Elizabeth Wright

I am a passionate social worker currently working with at risk seniors. I care deeply about helping individuals and families navigate the system and understand where they can receive supports for the difficulties they experience. I work from a holistic interdisciplinary team prospective and I recognize that many of the hardships individuals face steam from gaps within the government funded system. While completing my Honours Bachelor of Social Work degree with minors in Indigenous Studies at Wilfrid Laurier; I both volunteered with Best Buddies and worked for Community Living Brant. I have supported people of all ages and backgrounds with different kinds of learning and developmental disabilities. While studying I completed 2 placements one at a family assault shelter on Six Nations and the other at a youth centred community organization in Oxford County. I gained various skills including system navigation, active listening, as well as facilitation of group programming. Currently I am a unregistered social worker for VON Oxford. I work a 50/50 balance both at clients homes and at the office. As a RaiCHA assessor my focus is on understanding peoples current life struggles and helping them come up with meaningful solutions. I work mainly from a crisis intervention and social learning perspective. I also practice solution-focused and problem solving therapy strategist with clients. I am a fast learner who is eager to continue developing my social work skills, so I can advocate for the senior population. I aspire to move into a leadership role where I am currently employed and empowering marginalized groups within Oxford County for a more inclusive and accessible community.
