About Ellen Boccuzzi

I am a program management and policy leader with two decades of experience in research, program design and oversight, and end-to-end policy development. My work spans tech, government, academia, and the NGO sector. I have extensive experience managing diverse and distributed teams, as well as overseeing multi-million dollar budgets. As Principal Policy Specialist at Google Trust & Safety (T&S), I led policy development and implementation in the areas of hate speech, harassment, dangerous content, kids and family content, and commercial content for Search and Search AI. As part of this work, I developed the first generative AI policy for Google Shopping. This involved close collaboration with a range of internal and external stakeholders - including product, engineering, legal, and research - to drive safety improvements and build trust in the platform. My work with the US government has included serving as a Foreign Service Officer in Afghanistan, leading USAID's efforts to address human trafficking in the Pacific, and providing technical assistance to inform US government policy on vulnerable populations. I have also advised partner governments across the Asia-Pacific region on migration, trafficking, labor, gender, and education issues.
