About Ellen Hanefeld

Assisting the strategical planning and project management of the GIZ project “Supporting Wilpattu National Park and Influence Zone Management in Sri Lanka” made me realize how rewarding it can feel to have a positive impact on the environment as well as the people affected by it. Development cooperation embraces my interest of helping others in combination with my enthusiasm regarding cultures. I am thrilled by the structured work approach of project management, on which the success of a lot of projects depends. Linking background knowledge about the political economy of a nation to specific projects makes me understand a project´s broader context. My regional focus is on Asia, backed by firsthand experience gathered during my exchange semester in South Korea, volunteer work in Vietnam, the internship in Sri Lanka as well as various travels in the region. I take to heart Friedrich Rückert´s poem on languages – meanwhile trying to improve my Korean: Each new language learned sets free A fettered spirit from within me, To build a bridge from thought to thought And unlock the world-sense we forgot.
