About Ellen Marshall

Dr. Ellen Marshall currently serves as a faculty member for Delaware Technical Community College’s Criminal Justice Department at the Owens Campus in Georgetown, DE and as an adjunct professor for both the psychology and criminal justice majors at the Union Institute & University. She has also served as an adjunct instructor for Wilmington University teaching research methods in criminal justice. Dr. Marshall holds a Ph.D. in Psychology with a focus on traumatic stress in the emergency services. Dr Marshall is a former twelve-year police veteran from Delaware where she held positions in patrol, Criminal Investigations, and Special Operations. She holds certifications as a Critical Incident Stress Management trainer, a C.O.P.T. Law Enforcement Instructor, a Domestic Violence Specialist, and a Victim Services Specialist, among other law enforcement certifications. Dr. Marshall is also a Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress. She volunteers her time as the Mental Health Coordinator for the Delaware State Police Critical Incident Stress Management Team. Her research in “Cumulative Career Traumatic Stress in Law Enforcement” has been published in both peer review and non-peer review journals. Her most recent research publication has been included in the 2007 text, Stress Management in Law Enforcement. She has presented her research extensively at local, state, and federal law enforcement organizations across the country including the FBI National Academy. Dr. Marshall is continuing her research in traumatic stress in the emergency services, has recently developed a Reintegration Program for law enforcement officers returning from duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, and has given presentations on topics such as school shooters, school crisis management, traumatic stress in policing, and PTSD. Dr. Marshall is continuing her education earning a Master’s degree in Higher Education Leadership and a professional certificate in educational technologies.
