About Ellen Paatela
I am currently a PhD candidate in the Molecular and Cellular Biology program at the University of Washington. My thesis work in the lab of Stephen Tapscott, MD, PhD at Fred Hutch focuses on studying genetic mechanisms of Facioscapulohumeral dystrophy (FSHD) pathogenesis and the consequences of early embryonic gene expression in cancer. Previously, I worked in the lab of Nobuaki Kikyo, MD PhD at the University of Minnesota Stem Cell Institute studying the influence of circadian rhythms on muscle regeneration. I am passionate about bridging the gap between basic scientific discoveries and new therapeutic avenues.
