About Ellen van Bueren
Governance of sustainable urban areas is at the core of Ellen's research and teaching. With a background in urban planning and public policy, she analyzes and advises on decision-making in complex, multi-actor settings, public and private, including questions of governance, organisation, and regulation. As professor of Urban Development Management she aims to further develop a generalized, theoretical understanding of processes of urban development and the management thereof, which can be of use to stakeholders involved in urban development projects. Ellen has published on topics as institutional barriers for sustainable construction, the mainstreaming of green building, sustainable urban development, renewable energy policy and implementation, and evaluation of environmental policy. She has edited 'Sustainable Urban Environments: an Ecosystem Approach'(Springer, 2012). The book "Constructing Green, the Social Structures of Sustainabilty"(eds. A. Hoffman & R. Henn) featuring a chapter by Ellen van Bueren and Bertien Broekhans on Mainstreaming Niche Innovations received Honorable Mention for the 2014 Best Book Award from the Organizations & Natural Environment Division of the Academy of Management.
