About Ellen Whelan

I have worked as a specialist assessor at Bloomfield Learning Centre since 2014. I am also an assessment consultant, working both at Bloomfield and privately to mentor new assessors in report writing skills or provide support and guidance for those who wish to develop their current skill set as an assessor. As an assessor, I work with all age ranges, specialise in more complex profiles, and perform specialist teacher assessments for DSA applications for students with ADHD or DCD. I am also an SFE-registered specialist study skills and strategies tutor, with ten years of experience supporting undergraduate and postgraduate students to develop their study skills, improve the quality of their written work and increase their confidence in their ability to achieve academic success. This work is reflected in improved grades and better emotional well-being when studying. I have worked in areas as diverse as undergraduate neuroscience, masters level law, and PhD missiology. I have a Masters, with distinction, in Specific Learning Difficulties from UCL's Institute of Education (2013) and hold an up-to-date Assessment Practising Certificate. I successfully completed my third APC submission in 2022. I have also worked as a marker on the UCL SpLD level 7 program. I have a particular interest in ADHD, and I am part of an advisory committee for ADHD and autism services at South London's Maudsley Hospital. I have a wealth of family/lived experience with ADHD and other learning difficulties. This feeds into the support and insight I can provide as a specialist tutor, assessor and assessment consultant/mentor.
