Background
About Elly Ward
I am a multi-disciplinary creative, educator + curator who is highly skilled in experiential and spatial design with extensive experience in business and event management in the fields of architecture, interior design and hospitality. In 2017 I launched multi-disciplinary practice Both/And Design with the aim to initiate, curate and produce creative projects in collaboration with others. Since 2018 I have founded three successful business start-ups which set out to explore creative and sustainable solutions through championing regenerative food production and low waste consumption. My most recent project, EDIT, is a hyper seasonal, low impact, plant-based restaurant designed with circular principles. EDIT has been featured in several notable design-focussed publications such as Dezeen, Modern House and OnOffice, as well as the Evening Standard, The Telegraph and the Financial Times. Prior to this, in 2013 I co-founded architecture practice Ordinary Architecture. Notable projects included delivery of the final stages of A House For Essex, an award-winning collaborative project by the Turner-Prize winning artist Grayson Perry and FAT; the inaugural exhibition design for the V&A Pavilion at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale; a series of specially commissioned site specific art installations for the Royal Academy of Art; and public art projects in London and Los Angeles. Alongside my career as both a practitioner and entrepreneur, I have tutored at several leading universities including The Royal College of Art, University of Westminster, London Metropolitan University and University of Brighton. I have also been a guest critic and lecturer at several more institutions in the UK, Spain and the US. I studied MA Architecture at the Royal College of Art and BA Architecture at London Metropolitan University where I won the Best Portfolio Prize and a nomination for the RIBA Bronze Medal. My academic work has won awards and been exhibited at several notable institutions including the Royal Academy and the Royal Institute of British Architects. My work has also been published in a number of respected design and architecture publications including Domus, Dezeen, Blueprint, Architectural Review and RIBA Journal. In 2013 I was invited to guest edit a special edition of the RIBA Journal in which I was described as one of the “most interesting emerging talent in architecture today”. Most recently, I am exploring opportunities in curation and design with a focus on circular and regenerative projects, and the re-launch of event and exhibition space, SITE.
