Background

About Elma Alfiah

I am the youngest Lecturer in the Nutrition Programme at Al-Azhar University in Indonesia. I am deeply committed to learning and dedicated to the field of nutrition and health. My personality is characterized by dynamic energy and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. In 2017, after completing my post-master's degree, I participated in a national research initiative covering 30 cities/districts in Indonesia. This project was coordinated by SEAFAST IPB and funded by Nutrition International. Witnessing the acceptance of our research proposal for international grant funding was truly remarkable. I was involved in the project over three sessions spanning three years. Throughout my research journey, I gained a diverse range of experiences, from mastering intricate research techniques to managing vast datasets. Additionally, I developed soft skills like coordination, diplomacy, and community engagement. With my deep involvement in this extensive research, I joined Al-Azhar University Indonesia (UAI) in mid-2018 as a full-time faculty member. My role extended beyond the essential tridharma of teaching, research and community service. I was also actively involved in developing new study programs from inception until their establishment in late 2018. Additionally, I became a part of the Directorate of Student Affairs and Alumni, apart from my primary responsibility in the programme. I earned several accolades in both the academic program and the Directorate of Student Affairs and Alumni over the years. I am proud to have received the Best Achievement award for my research output at UAI. Additionally, I have successfully obtained collaborative grants with IPB, including the National Research Riset (PRN) grant for combating stunting, which is funded by BRIN. Alongside fulfilling my tri-dharma responsibilities, I have continuously developed my expertise in halal assurance systems. This acknowledges the worldwide momentum of halal products in the food and nutrition sector and supports UAI's mission and vision based on spiritual and Islamic values. Beyond my accomplishments within the Nutrition Programme, as the Head of Tracer Study and Alumni Empowerment Section at the Directorate of Student Affairs and Alumni, I have supervised the introduction of a structured Tracer Study and effectively arranged the university's initial magnificent alumni gathering in its 22-year history.
