About Elvida Velic

I’m a passionate Mental Health Counselor (MHC-LP) with a strong foundation in forensic psychology and forensic mental health counseling. With clinical experience in both private practice and justice-involved settings, I’m dedicated to supporting individuals as they work through mental health challenges—especially those navigating the intersection of behavioral health and the legal system. Currently, I provide psychotherapy at New Start Mental Health Counseling and serve as Supervisor of Mental Health Diversion at EAC-TASC, where I assist clients involved in the criminal justice system in accessing treatment alternatives and essential support services. My work is rooted in the belief that mental health care should be accessible, empowering, and tailored to each person’s unique needs. I hold two master’s degrees from John Jay College, where I built a strong background in psychological assessment, diagnostic formulation, and counseling techniques. I’m particularly interested in substance use recovery, reintegration support, and using evidence-based approaches like CBT and motivational interviewing to create lasting change.
