About Elvis Chong

I am currently part of a dedicated team that safeguards Singapore every day in the maritime domain. I manage a team of 18 to ensure daily operational policies and contingency plans make sense to those who execute them. I also save lives as a Police negotiator. In my previous stints, I led a team of more than 100 in advancing public safety and security and also in capability development that realised the deployment of UAVs and robots in major events and daily deployments. I picked up Futures Thinking in recent years and aspire to build a culture that incorporates foresight in strategic planning to deal with the VUCA environment. Thinking about how we can deal with the future starts with every team member.Beyond my professional life, I volunteer in the grassroots movement with a keen interest in emergency preparedness, community building, and building an inclusive community. I always advocate lowering the barrier of entry to volunteerism as some worried about long-term commitment and uncertainties in a new social circle. With more contributing to the community, I see volunteerism as a social glue in building an inclusive and graceful society. As a millennial, technology is a big part of my life. When I was young, Transformers and Terminator motivated me to pick up Turbo Pascal and helped me appreciate number theory. It also allowed me the opportunity to automate works at school. Now when I am growing up, the neverending films on Netflix compete for my time to learn about Python and new technology. I hope to be able to maximise the benefit of my learning back to the community.I'm always looking to grow my personal and professional network. Feel free to connect via LinkedIn.
