Background

About Elyse Carney

I’m a communications specialist with over four years of professional experience in public relations and communications. In 2017, I completed my advanced diploma in public relations with Durham College in Oshawa, Ontario. Immediately upon graduation, I was hired at a public relations firm in downtown Toronto, where I worked as an account coordinator and then, later, as a consultant. As a member of the firm’s corporate and finance team, I’ve worked on a diverse range of clients, from leading Canadian banks and investment firms, to e-commerce companies and grocery chains. My time at the agency allowed me to hone and grow my professional writing abilities, as I developed content for a range of audiences, both internal and external. Whether it is in a technical or creative capacity, writing is where my passion lies. Once I’ve graduated (and once I can find five minutes for myself), I hope to get back to writing my first novel in my spare time, with the support of the local writing club I attend. Working at an agency also helped me discover my love for post-secondary education, which is partially what inspired me to step back from my career to finish my bachelor’s in professional communications with Royal Roads University. With graduation in sight, I’m ready to resume my career and enter the next stage of my journey.
