Ever since kindergarten I can remember my report cards saying,"Elyse is an excellent student, however; she talks too much, no matter where she sits!" Throughout my life I always felt that being "talkative" was a hindrance or something to be ashamed of. I started working at the age of fifteen. At that time, I was able to manage being an honor student, athlete, and employee. I learned early how important it is to balance and manage my time while taking the opportunity to gain experience and transferrable skills that will benefit my future. Over the years, I have maintained employment and never stopped striving to learn as much as I can. I am a firm believer that life lessons and skills are not always taught in the classroom. You can learn just as much through experience and getting your hands dirty. Through both, I have developed the art of being able to communicate with anyone at any given time, to the point where I have been told by previous managers that I have “the gift of gab.” I had never heard of “the gift of gab” and quite honestly, I was offended and thought of it negatively. But then I realized that having a passion for effective and confident communication was more of an advantage than disadvantage. Once I realized this, I took advantage of my “gift” and became the voice of those that cannot communicate for themselves. For the last eleven years, I have been assisting individuals with a variety of medical, mental, and physical disabilities with obtaining and maintaining gainful employment in their communities. I teach them how to communicate effectively, be professional, highlight their skills and abilities all while working in a job that they can be proud of. Not only do I consistently work with a variety of recruiting and human resource teams, but I also work with many Vocational Rehabilitation offices throughout the state of Florida. I am a “people person” who strives to continue learning all I can about connecting people to their passions. Plus, everyone needs a job, right?
