About Elysse Lloyd

I am a Solicitor in the Workplace Relations, Discrimination and Administrative Law team of the University of Sydney’s Office of General Counsel. My practice involves advising and representing the University in the following areas: • in administrative law matters, including applications under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act), information privacy, student discipline, and internal and external processes applicable to the review of University decisions; and • in employment, workplace relations, discrimination and research misconduct matters. Prior to re-joining the University of Sydney in March 2020, I had 5 years’ experience at Ashurst. During my time in Ashurst’s Employment team, I practised in a variety of areas within the employment field, including employment contracts, industrial relations, enterprise bargaining, employment litigation, anti-discrimination law and work health and safety. I also completed various client secondments, including to the University of Sydney's Office of General Counsel (working in the same team that I rejoined in 2020, for a period of approximately 14 months in total) and to Woolworths Group Limited. I received my law degree from Macquarie University, graduating in April 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts combined with a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours). During my studies, I had experience as a paralegal/clerk at both Ashurst and a specialist employment law firm from 2010 until 2014. I was admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales as a solicitor in December 2015, and to the High Court of Australia in January 2017. In 2020, I returned to part-time study by enrolling in a Master of Laws at the University of Sydney. I have been listed as a finalist in the following awards: • the 2019 NSW Women Lawyer's Achievement Awards in the 'Rising Star of the Year' category; • the 2019 Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards in the 'Rising Star of the Year - In-House' category,(for my work whilst on secondment from Ashurst to the University of Sydney); and • the 2021 Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 Awards in the 'Government' and 'Corporate Counsel (Large Business)' categories.
