About Emani Lesane

Emani Lesane is a graduate of Howard University, receiving a B.A. in English with a focus in Creative Writing and a minor in Psychology. They are a current student at Columbia University in the city of New York, studying to receive an MFA in Fiction Writing. Before graduation, Emani served as a Research and Development Intern for the Hurston/Wright Foundation. They were also an inaugural member of the Marita Golden Literary Fellowship. Emani was very involved with the literary field on Howard's campus. She served as the vice president of the Sterling Allen Brown English Society and a co-editor for their literary magazine, Sterling Notes. She has also held previous media-related positions such as Social Media Director for 237 Ent. and professional development/media intern under Angela Rye. All of these positions are held while Emani also owns and curates her writing blog, Brown Suga Babe. An annual viewership of nearly readers spans over 35 countries. Holding these positions has proven itself to be an integral part of cultivating and polishing her skills as a writer. While at Columbia, Emani has served numerous leadership roles, most of which were teaching-based and through the Columbia Artist/Teachers program. They have served as an elementary school mentor, a high school creative writing teacher, and were even given the opportunity to teach a higher education level course.
