About Emer Flounders

Mr. Flounders has over 40 years of experience in a Materials Engineering capacity to private industry and government agencies. He is currently serving on the AMPP (Association for Materials Protection and Performance) Global Center Board of Directors (2021-2022). Prior to the merger of NACE International and SSPC, Mr. Flounders served on the NACE International Board of Directors as the Eastern Area Director (2019-2021). He has performed work across the United States, Europe, Middle East, Russian Federation and Far East. His engineering experience covers most types of corrosion problems, specializing in metallurgical aspects. Investigations have included the following areas: failure analysis, materials selection, cathodic protection (CP), stray traction current, atmospheric corrosion, coatings, water treatment, design, corrosion studies, reinforced and prestressed concrete, and storage tanks. Over 38 years’ experience in all phases of CP, including the design and testing of impressed current and sacrificial systems. For over 5 years, acted as Lead Engineer for failure analysis projects specializing in metallurgical aspects. Performed the role of independent third-party investigator in the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of a 36-inch natural gas pipeline failure in Alabama. Served as Construction Manager on numerous multimillion dollar construction projects. Specialties: Registered Professional Engineer in 8 states - Metallurgical: PA, TN, MA, NY, MD, VA, WI and NJ. Recognized as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in corrosion control per the DOT Operator Qualification Compliance Program NAUI Open Water 1 Registered Scuba Diver, 1988
