About Emi Murata
I have been teaching piano since I was in high school. Age range of my students 3 - 73. Beginners through advanced. I enjoy the variety. It is important to me that I set a good example for my students. Therefore, I perform regularly in the Chicago area. My goal is to create lifelong music lovers, who understand what they are playing. Besides teaching piano and theory, I have also been music director of several children's theater productions and played piano for numerous high school and community musicals. I have accompanied choir, show choir, solo voice and other instruments, and was the jazz band pianist in high school and college. One of my favorite memories was soloing with the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra when I was 16. Specialties: I am a founding member of Piano a la Quartette, a 2-piano, 8-hands ensemble. I am also discovering the joy of piano trios with my 2 daughters who play violin and cello, in addition to piano.
