About Emiel Hanekamp

Emiel Hanekamp is one of the founders and managing partners of Partners for Innovation. He has over 25 years of working experience as an environmental/sustainability and innovation consultant, working for Partners for Innovation, PricewaterhouseCoopers, PiMC, CapGemini, Department of Public Works of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation and at ING Bank. Since 2006 he focusses on access to reliable and affordable renewable energy in Sub Sahara Africa. He was team leader of several multidisciplinary and multicultural projects and has working experience in South-Africa, Mali, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Indonesia, Mozambique, Ghana and Nigeria. In his work he supports both companies and governments in achieving their energy and climate targets, by providing insight into opportunities and by reducing risks. Emiel has been leading Partners for Innovation’s renewable energy team in the Netherlands from 2010-2021. In 2019 Emiel started the development of a new pellet factory in Port Elizabeth in South Africa; Coega Biomass Centre. In his role as Director Biomass Supply and Sustainability he is responsible for the identification, sourcing and supply of the required biomass, the sustainability of the harvesting operations (FSC certified) and the sustainability of the pellets (SBP certified). Emiel has a MSc degree in Physics and a MSc degree in Environmental Policy and Management.
