About Emil Mathew

Hi, I'm Emil - a recovering engineer who took scenic routes through school and the corporate world. I started off with a degree in chemical engineering because I thought mixing chemicals would be cool.until I realized financial models are less explosive. I started my career in VA Tech Wabag, in their corporate strategy team, working on desalination & wastewater projects - literally dealing with crap early on, which turned out to be great training for corporate life (and life in general). From there, I got a master's in engineering management, in an attempt to solve my then existential crisis - wondering if I should stay in an engineering role or move into management. Eventually, I got my MBA from the University of Michigan - because paying off student loans the size of a mortgage builds character. I've worked at Eaton (where everything was grounded - mostly because it was electrical), PwC (where I learnt to make slides that say "it depends" and use "synergy" and "strategy" in every sentence), and now at AT & T, I work in pricing strategy (see above). My career spans engineering, sales, strategy consulting, and pricing - basically changing roles every few years to avoid learning to code (although AI and I are working on it - and yes, SQL is coding) Ten-year-old Emil wanted to be a writer, so far, I have a lot of emails to show for. Anyway, if you are looking for someone who overanalyzes everything (i.e, quantitative) and treats color-coded PowerPoint like a love language (i.e, storytelling), I'm your guy!
