About Emilio Serrano
I’m a Full Professor in the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). I received my M.Sc. in Computer Science in 2006 and my Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence (with European Mention and Extraordinary Doctorate Award) in 2011, both from the University of Murcia. I’ve held visiting research positions at the University of Edinburgh, the University of Oxford, and the National Institute of Informatics in Tokyo. I’ve always been drawn to computing and the workings of the mind—so AI is a natural fit for me. I see my work as having three main facets:(1) staying up to date with cutting-edge research in AI,(2) applying and refining these ideas to address real-world societal challenges, and (3) communicating these insights clearly to diverse audiences.
