I am a recent veteran from the U.S.N. and am always on the lookout for new opportunities to grow in my field. The most invaluable lesson I learned from the military is to never stop asking questions. Never let your pride or ego stop you from asking questions. You can be a Subject Matter Expert and still have questions, there’s always more to ask always more to learn (as long as you’re asking the right people). To stop asking questions is to assume you know it all and this is the moment you stop growing as a professional. Don’t be afraid to not know something, there is nothing wrong with saying “I don’t know as” long as you following it up with a “but I can find out”. Keep your questions relevant and don’t repeat the same one once you’ve gotten your answer. This is how I confidently excelled in my military career and my civilian positions as shown in resume.
