Miniaturized high throughput screening is a great way to relieve bottlenecks in testing steps while also reducing materials used to find improved bio productivity or waste remediation. I develop microfluidic assays for improved small molecule production, microbial consortia phenotyping, and protein engineering. This technology has a lot of potential and I’m excited about unlocking it! Skills: Microdroplet screening: encapsulated and sorted multiple libraries including million-member mutagenesis libraries, as well as microbial communities. Adapted microfluidic platform for screening anaerobic microbes and performing high throughput cytotoxicity assays. Metabolic Engineering: Built small molecule production strains in multiple hosts to produce industrially relevant compounds. Designed and built libraries for genome-wide perturbations. Entrepreneurship: Awarded the John Brumely Texas Venture Labs fellowship for 2022/23. Used the opportunity to work for Retna bio and apply for multiple funding opportunities. Submitted an NSF SBIR pitch that was accepted. Designed pitch decks, business plans, and consulting project scopes. Successfully applied to and was awarded the Texas innovation center commercialization grant for Retna bio. Analytical Chemistry: Optimized HPLC protocols for identification of secreted small molecules of interest.
