About Emily Brown

I am currently working as a nurse practitioner in an orthopedic spine surgery practice. I independently evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients for their neck, thoracic, and low back pain conditions. I work patients up and help decide if they are surgical candidates. I also care for post operative patients after they undergo various back surgeries including kyphoplasty, decompression laminectomies, fusions, disc arthroplasty, epidural abscess drainage, etc. of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. I have gained experience with reading and interpreting imaging including x-rays, CT scans, and MRIs. I work closely with my collaborating attending orthopedic surgeon in addition to other members of the healthcare team and other specialties. I also initiate appropriate referrals to pain medicine, neurology, physical therapy when appropriate. I have previous 6 years of nursing experience in a surgical ICU at UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I graduated from Carlow University in May 2020 with a Master of Science degree from the Family Nurse Practitioner program. I am a critical thinker, motivated learner, and authentic leader.
