About Emily Cobar

Hi there, I've loved nature for as long as I can remember but really got into the wonders of it since I was 16. In college, I completed both Natural History Field Quarter and the California Naturalist program where I gained knowledge and expertise on the natural history of California plants, birds, reptiles, and more. At my current job at Los Angeles Audubon Society, I had hands-on training with bird surveys and habitat restoration including seed collecting, transplanting, and planting of California native plants and weeding non-native invasive plant species. I'd like to say I'm community-oriented and a strong advocate for life-long learning including unlearning history of conservation and the environmental movement with a white-narrative and amplify the voices of Black Indigenous and People of Color. Outside of habitat restoration, I also work in environmental education using intersectionality and environmental justice as the framework with high school and college students. I also teach beach ecology and natural history of the Baldwin Hills Parklands in our free field trip programs for students in Title I schools which are low-income and historically excluded communities. I work with people of all ages and academic interests/backgrounds and love to talk about our place in nature and advocacy for water and greenspaces in the city for people and wildlife. Looking forward to networking and connecting with others with similar interests or any future collaborations.
