About Emily Davidson

I am a disciplined and hard-working individual who has just completed an MA in English literature at the University of Sheffield. I am an enthusiastic and dedicated individual with skills in organisation and time management. I have particular interests in critical studies, Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century literature and American literature, with specific reference to gender, sexuality and class. Through university, I have undertaken a number of projects, both based on a brief and independently constructed, that have allowed me to apply skills in planning, editing, proofreading and writing. My biggest, and most successful, project to date was a word undergraduate dissertation that studied the work of George Egerton and her use of the 'New Woman' during the Fin de Siecle period. This work has been archived by the head of the dissertation module for the benefit of future students. Through my essays and research, I have learned to be resilient and trusting of myself as an academic, accepting criticism and applying it as a useful tool to grow. During my degrees, I have also undertaken part time work as a sales assistant at IKEA Sheffield. This position has taught me practical retail skills, such as using sales figures to merchandise and increase sales, working with customers to provide a high-quality service and staying actively informed on the latest products and offers. This position has also taught me a number of interchangeable skills in communication. My hobbies and passions include reading, music, and engaging with the history and culture of different cities through museum/gallery visits. I also maintain a "bookstagram" account that logs my reading to connect better with material and expand my analysis' of the material, alongside a personal tiktok account and an occasional WordPress blog.
