About Emily Elia

I am a PhD candidate at Rice University studying political science and specializing in comparative politics. With a regional focus on Latin America, my current research interests include corruption, electoral accountability, representation, and the intersection of elite behavior and institutions. More specifically, I am interested in how political elites evade electoral accountability in contexts of corruption. With my passion for learning and teaching, I aim to research and teach at an institution for higher education after the completion of my doctorate. I am a 2018 graduate of The University of Alabama with a BA in Political Science and Spanish (double major) and a minor in the Liberal Arts through the Blount Scholars Program. I graduated summa cum laude, and I am a member of Phi Beta Kappa. I earned my MA in Political Science from Rice University in 2020.
