Background
About Emily Gray
An Animal Behaviour graduate who is committed to her work, achieving high standards and with a strong passion for a career in conservation. My studies expanded my knowledge and broadened my ecological insight across ecosystems, environments and how animals behave/socialise. Alongside my degree studies I have in place a volunteer program providing me with opportunities to develop my work experience across a wide range of areas in this sector. Current focus is in practicing my skills creating habitats for species to thrive in, protect environments and make them safe for public enjoyment. I have become an avid volunteer for The Wildlife Trust, beginning at South Yorkshire nature reserves in summer to now a weekly helper at Liverpool reserves, helping out with such tasks as; taking off tree guards, clearing pathways of overgrown vegetation (including invasive rhododendron), litter picking, preparing nature reserves for events, weed pulling, partaking in wildlife surveys and pond reconstruction. I have kept up my attendance due to my willingness and ambition to create a positive difference. I have a great amount of teamwork experience from volunteer, academic work and paid positions, which has given me respectful relationships with all the members I have worked with. Contributing in teamwork has increased my creative thinking to develop ideas for group presentations, carry out tasks sufficiently and encourage team members to overcome obstacles. I am confident and capable of carrying out physical tasks in all-weather types, knowing the correct ways to handle/use tools such as bow saws, hedge shears, branch cutters, wheelbarrows. I have some knowledge of health and safety procedures such as help maintain a man-made fire, read over risk assessments before attending field trips and attaining knowledge of certain grass fields that can impose ticks. My people skills are at a high standard from dealing with customer service at my part-time job. Plus, in all my work types, I keep a professional written and verbal communication within emails, phone and in person.I have been able to achieve deadline dates for all my study work, setting out my time wisely giving me the ability to work under pressure and solve problems sufficiently. I take pride in acting on my own initiative, quick decision making, observing situations and acting empathetically which I believe will all work well in an outdoor wildlife career, possibly in a role managing people for a charity or public organisation which is sustainable and good for the environment.
